2025 Mercedes E53 Hybrid Review & Introduction

Cars are getting more robust, powerful, and advanced launch by launch. They’ve been hitting the gym seven days a week and extra hard lately.

If you remember the previous model of the Mercedes-AMG E53 sedan in the United States, that car used to deliver an impressive 429 horsepower, which is good, right?

Here comes the 2025 version with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a whopping 576 horsepower! And get this: With the optional Race Start mode, it goes up to a crazy 603 horsepower!

That’s more power than the old Mercedes-AMG E63 S! Talk about car evolution on steroids!

2025 Mercedes E53 Hybrid Specs

Let’s talk about the E53 Hybrid, the dad’s side cousin of the GLE53 Hybrid, which has more power and torque. Even though the Mercedez E53 Hybrid & GLE53 Hybrid share the same engine, the E53 Hybrid still gets that extra power from its powerful electric motor.

Under the hood, this car has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine flexing its muscles at 443 horsepower. But wait, there’s more!

There’s this electric motor chilling between the engine and the transmission, adding some severe pep with 161 horsepower and 352 pound-feet of torque all on its own.

Also, if you love speed, this car gives you the Race Start Mode option. This mode comes with the stylish AMG Dynamix Plus Package, which can deliver a combined torque of a whopping 553 pound-feet! It’s like giving your car a double shot of espresso.

Acceleration

Regarding the adrenalin rush, AMG reported that if you’re in the Race Start mode, this Hybrid can accelerate from 0- 62 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds.

So, without hitting that fancy Race Start mode, the new E53 Hybrid is just a bit slower— two-tenths a second. But let me tell you, even without going full speed ahead, it’s still faster than the previous E53 Coupe, which hit 60 mph in four seconds flat.

You can bet on it—the new E53 Hybrid will outperform those official speed numbers!

The E53 is now equipped with double-valve active dampers, which make the car smooth like butter. Four-wheel steering is also standard, making parking much more accessible.

They’ve even beefed up the body with extra reinforcement, like a sturdy exoskeleton. And let’s not forget the brakes—they’re going from “stop” to “whoa!” with bigger calipers and rotors.

It’s like giving your car a superhero makeover!

Battery Performance

Talking about its battery packs, this E53 has a 21.2-kWh battery pack tucked neatly under the E53 Hybrid rear corner, keeping it secretly hidden.

This new E53 Hybrid has a faster charger than most electric cars. It offers an option for this advanced 60-kW D.C. speedier charger, which can charge a battery from 10% – 80% in just 20 minutes.

This technology is what all-electric car fans are waiting for. Who knows what the future holds for superfast electric car chargers?

And if you don’t own a D.C. charger, its A.C. charger is quick, too.

It pumps out a respectable 11 kW of power—enough to juice up your battery without waiting forever.

Driving Mode Options

The E53 hybrid offers great driving mode options. First, it comes with an electric mode, which allows your car to go full electric until the battery runs out. Second, it gets a Battery Hold mode.

This option keeps your battery at the same charge level when you need it later. It’s like hitting pause on the battery drain button.

And there’s another latest technology it offers. For example, if you’re in cruising mode, the E53 Hybrid throttle pedal signals when you’re speeding fast or, say, reaching its peak performance.

But if you decide to push it even further, that’s when the engine kicks in, and you switch to hybrid mode. It’s like your car’s saying, “Okay, time to bring in the big guns!”

Design & Aesthetics

First, you’ll notice a big front bumper and Ewider fenders, which make the car look more badass.

However, those fenders look like they’ve got some vents, but surprise! They’re just for show. No air goes through them. Sneaky, right? These fenders are 0.4 inches wider than those of the previous model.

The 2023 Mercedez E53 Hybrid is more extensive and muscular than the previous regular E-class model. It gets a new brand-spanking grill with appealing vertical lines with AMG with an illuminated outline. Talk about fancy!!

At the back, it gets a slick spoiler on the trunk, quad tailpipes for that sporty appearance, and a red E53 badge to let everyone know this baby’s packing some hybrid power.

Interior

The interior of the E53 Hybrid is similar to that of any other fancy E-class. It gets AMG branding on its steering wheels and some snazzy new graphics on the instrument panel.

However, this Hybrid feels slightly different from other highly equipped E-class models. The Final specs haven’t been nailed down yet, so we know we’ll all be treated to that Superscreen as standard.

Added Features:

  1. AMG retains the steering column gear selector wand over the separate center console shifter.
  2. Gearchange paddles now serve dual purpose: dynamic mode gear selection and regenerative braking adjustment.
  3. The aggressive regenerative braking setting acts as a one-pedal driving mode, per AMG’s statement.

Price & Release Date

  1. U.S. deliveries of the new E53 will go on sale in the third quarter of 2024, and pricing details are still being finalized.
  2. AMG suggests that in Europe, the updated E53 Hybrid carries only a slight price increase compared to its predecessor – let’s cross our fingers for similar affordability stateside.
